Dark Horse Darling

The inaugural entry into the Active Bands section is Dark Horse Darling out of Dallas, consisting of Robert Hibbitts on Vocals, Corey Goodwin on Guitar, Aaron McGrath on Bass and Brian Knox on Drums, Dark Horse Darling sound like someone took metalcore and soaked for a week in Jim Beam. They hit all the bullet points I expect out of a metalcore band, but then they throw in some southern rock twinges to help set them apart from the pack. They're heavy, but not overly so and the vocal style sort of reminds of The American Tragedy out of Shreveport, LA. It gives the band an almost pop punk vibe but with a harder edge behind it. Overall, it's a package I don't run into, often, which is refreshing.

In case you are curious, my personal pick from what I've heard is the first video I shared, Sleeping On the Floor, taken from the Only Time Will Tell EP, but Moonshine at Sunrise from their 2012 Moonshine at Sunrise EP is also solid. You can also check out their five song EP, Only Time Will Tell, which they've been kind enough to post on youtube, in it's entirety.

Dark Horse Darling is the perfect candidate to be the first band I talk about. Not only do they have a strong presence on the web, but they have plenty of music for me to point people at. That's my dream here; less typey, more linky. I will let you decide if it's a band you want to get into or not. So go forth and listen. Let me know what you think, either here, or on the Facebook page, just so I know if people are actually reading this junk.
