Rivethead

RIVETHEAD is a Dallas, TX based quartet whose music paints musical soundscapes like a cyborg armed with a XM214 machine gun, blasting holes through a more-than-boring landscape filled with mundane terrestrial radio-rock, sappy grunge rock, and scream-a-bit-too-much-latetly?-scream-o rock.

RIVETHEAD has an impressive resume, having had music cranked up on nationally syndicated radio shows, XM Radio, at Dallas Stars and Dallas Cowboys games (as well as several minor hockey league teams), on several television shows, and has been featured on a motion picture’s soundtrack. The list of credits is too long to list here, but you can watch some of the clips on our TV page (listed above), which includes some pretty wicked RIVETHEAD riffing from That Metal Show. Few bands of recent memory challenge the listener - while also managing to draw you in with melodic offerings - as much as the fast-rising Serosia, and their new E.P, 'Variables'. Hailing from Dallas, Texas, the band is comprised of Lucas D'Agata - vocals, Derek Troxell - guitars, Joseph Kuban - bass, and Anthony D'Agata - drums. "The best way to describe our sound is emotional and meaningful," explains the group's singer, Lucas. "We are not a love song band, nor do we care about how hard you can party or how many chicks you think you can score. Musically, we are aggressive yet delicate, with a strong sense of detail and vision." Blake Ferris playing drums, because he's a drummer, yall

Driven Below announced the addition of drummer Blake Ferris to their lineup. Blake previously played drums for Stealing Axion (Century Media) out of Tacoma, WA and Hostility (Voltaic Records) from Novato, CA. Blake replaces former Lesser Known God and Jacknife drummer Tommy Crooks.

Driven below are planning to get in the studio with Blake and recent addition Danny Reid (Within Chaos) on vocals to get some new material out.  In the meantime, I've included the full version of Stealing Axion's Everything or Nothing and Within Chaos' Power Trip after the jump, so if you play them both at the same time, it will sound like madness and probably drive you insane.  So don't do that.

Low Gear

Band Bio:
It’s a rare thing when a band cohesively gels and puts out exceptional music. You can feel it in the songs; you can see it in every performance and you can hear it in a recording. The energy that flows from each instrument to the center of a room to form a heavy groove straight to the listener’s ears is what separates Low Gear from any other band. With a current and uniquely influenced sound, Low Gear separates themselves from the pack by the group’s seasoned musicians.

Collectively, the members have been playing in the Dallas local scene for over 15 years. These aren’t boys; they’re men that have seen the industry change right in front of their eyes. They’ve hung on and never given up, always finding ways to mold their sound to what the fans want while remaining solid in their roots of heavy metal.

Allison Red

Bio:
Since their initial inception in 2010, this band has made its presence known to all who stood in their wake to witness one, or more, of their onslaughts of shows in various venues across the DFW scene; from the Curtain Club in Dallas to the Railclub in Ft Worth, and all in between.

No Comment, No Judgment

I want to fill out the active bands list a little faster than I have been, so I am going to start treating those posts as information dumps and keep my opinions out of them, going forward.  Reason being, mostly, that letting the music speak for itself was sort of my whole idea when I decided to start this thing back up. In the spirit of that, I will grab some a video or two to embed, throw in the ReverbNation player if they have one and then throw in links to as many of the band's web pages as I can find.  Basically, I want to put my effort into aggregating this info to get it out there.  The reason I am drawing attention to this is I don't want people making assumptions when I start adding bands without comment. I will probably go back and edit the first few posts to bring them in line with the rest, as well.

Then I may not be your best bet. However, if you want your news seen and video watched by 10s of people, I am your guy. See that there to your right? Fill it out and click send. If you know of or are in a band you'd like to see listed in the Active Bands directory, hit me up and I'll get it handled, though I would recommend checking the Active Bands page for a couple of tips before contacting me.

The Dialectic

Holy Shit.  I mean, really...Ho. Ly. Shit. Did you click the video up there? Yea? Then you know what I am talking about. So today's entry into Active Bands is The Dialectic out of Dallas Tyler, TX. Tyler?? Hot damn. Sorry. So, anyway, hailing from Tyler, TX, The Dialectic is made up of Mitch Howie on Vocals, Justin Mehan on Bass, Derek Terry on Guitar and Jeremy Alexander on Drums

9.11.14

Dark Horse Darling

The inaugural entry into the Active Bands section is Dark Horse Darling out of Dallas, consisting of Robert Hibbitts on Vocals, Corey Goodwin on Guitar, Aaron McGrath on Bass and Brian Knox on Drums, Dark Horse Darling sound like someone took metalcore and soaked for a week in Jim Beam. They hit all the bullet points I expect out of a metalcore band, but then they throw in some southern rock twinges to help set them apart from the pack. They're heavy, but not overly so and the vocal style sort of reminds of The American Tragedy out of Shreveport, LA. It gives the band an almost pop punk vibe but with a harder edge behind it. Overall, it's a package I don't run into, often, which is refreshing.

Bring Out Your Dead (web sites)

So I have had some people approach me about resurrecting DTS Underground. It's something I've kicked around in my head, but never seriously considered doing until recently. There were a lot of aspects of managing DTSU that I loved, but also quite a few that I just hated. Eventually, the hated overtook the loved and I felt I had to walk away. So if I am going to resurrect it, it would have to be in a way that minimizes or eliminates the hated aspects and puts more emphasis on doing the stuff I loved.
